 Sword of Innovation
In a profession where differentiation is hard to find, being innovative does give lawyers a competitive edge. Simply thinking about how advice can be better delivered or how a client’s business can be better facilitated can pay dividends for lawyers. In our research, clients tend to equate the innovative lawyer with the problem solver. Innovative lawyers don’t say no without saying ‘but’. They are the ones who walk in their client’s shoes, finding legal solutions to commercial problems. Lawyers are often been accused of fence sitting. This is not an accusation that can be levelled at any of the lawyers profiled in the FT Report. The Report is in fact a testament to how much lawyers can achieve when they are pro-active in using their skills, training and role in the business community in ways that are both inside and outside their professional demarcations.
